High CNC (Continuity of Nurse Caregivers) as the infant recovers is also necessary to support the emergence of physiological, structural, and social competencies. Preterm infants display many subtle behaviors that may reflect stress or illness. The NICU nurse who knows his or her patient is able to interpret the behavior and respond with interventions known to support the infant.
