How to log on at GRC: Newsela

This guide explains how to access your student email, Canvas classes, Microsoft Office, campus computers, and online tools for your education.

What is Newsela?

Newsela is an English and Spanish reading comprehension tool.

It provides authentic news, arts, health, money, law science, and sports content at different lexile (reading) levels that can be changed based on your need.

Log In through Canvas

  1. Log into Canvas.

  2. Open a published class in Canvas.

  3. Click the Newsela link in the course navigation menu on the left side of the screen to open Newsela.

  4. You will be asked to find your school. Do not search for GRC in the "District" field. Select "I don't have a district or can't find it listed."

  5. Search for Green River College.

  6. Scroll and select Green River College.

Create a "Class" in Newsela

To create classes, go to your Class Directory. You can find it in Settings.


You can sync your Canvas classes to Newsela to connect your assignments and grading.
