The Information Commons

The Information Commons is an open computer lab located on the second floor of the Holman Library BuildingHolman Library Information Commons

During open hours the Information Commons Reference Desk is staffed by Faculty Librarians who are available to help with information and research.

Student-workers provide additional technology and computing assistance.

More than 150 computers are available for use by currently registered students. A limited number of laptops are available for check out. There are also a limited number of library research computers openly available to public patrons (limited to most college sites, library resources, no printing on the library research computers). 

The open student lab computers are available on a first-come, first-served basis, and provide
access to various online research databases, course-related specialized software, Microsoft Office and full Internet access.

DSS Computers in the HL Information Commons

It is Green River College's Policy to provide reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities with advance notice of need. Holman Library and TC have computer hardware and software provided by DSS for students registered with DSS. In the library the two DSS computers are just west of the Reference Desk.  

 

Current students are allocated 80MB of server space on the Green River "H: Drive". All contents of the H: drive are erased at the end of Spring Quarter. Save your work often, both to a USB drive and your H: drive.

The H: drive can be accessed from networked computers on campus, or through the student Virtual Desktop:

In addition, current students have access to 1 TB of storage on their Microsoft OneDrive accounts.

Holman Library and the Tech Center Open Lab have black and white copiers, scanners, and printers available for GRC student use. Printers are available for black and white and color printing. Copiers and printers use student PaperCut printing points - for more information on printing points and usage, please see the Printing tab in this guide.

ADA accessible stations are available in both Holman Library Information Commons and the Tech Center Open Lab.

A whisper-only environment conducive to study is located on the 2nd floor of the Technology Center (TC building). There is a Coffee Shop on the 1st floor – and drinks ARE allowed in the Lab.

During open hours the TC Open Quiet Lab is staffed by student help-desk workers who can provide technology and computing assistance. There are a few in-lab webcams and headsets to check out.

150 computers are available for use by currently registered students.

The open student lab computers are available on a first-come, first-served basis, and provide access to various online research databases, course-related specialized software, Microsoft Office and full Internet access.

Study Tables

The outside area near the windows are full of study tables with a great view of campus. These are first come, first serve.

Group Study Areas

There are four reservable Quiet Voice Group Study Cubicles with White Board and Computer(s). Reserve one at the front desk of the lab.

Space for Attending Live Classes

TC206 is reserved for students needing space to take remote classes through zoom while on campus.

The Kent Open Computer Lab

A small computer lab is available on Kent Campus in Room 272.

The computer lab on Kent Campus (Room 272) offers 25 computers which are available for use by currently registered students.

The campus also offers in-person Student Help-Desk (SHD) support Monday through Thursday. SHD provides technology and computing assistance for any student. They are located at the Help Desk on the second floor.

The open student lab computers are available on a first-come, first-served basis, and provide access to various online research databases, course-related specialized software, Microsoft Office and full Internet access.
