✨Teaching Triangles (~10 hours)

A teaching triangle is a group of three instructors who agree to observe each other a few times during a quarter, using an agreed upon set of observation norms. It is designed to be a non-evaluative, supportive, and growth-based process. Participants are coached in setting a personal teaching goal and then observe others to give feedback and reflect on their own practice. Find out more details about the schedule and objectives


✨Book Club (~10 hours)

This Winter, we will be reading "Cheating Lessons: Learning from Academic Dishonesty" by James M. Lang. Five, one-hour meetings will occur from Week 4 (Jan 22) -Week 8 (March 1) of the term. A short synopsis is below:

James Lang’s provocative new research indicates that students often cheat because their learning environments give them ample incentives to try—and that strategies which make cheating less worthwhile also improve student learning. Cheating Lessons is a practical guide to tackling academic dishonesty at its roots. Drawing on an array of findings from cognitive theory, Lang analyzes the specific, often hidden features of course design and daily classroom practice that create opportunities for cheating. Lang seeks to empower teachers to create more effective learning environments that foster intrinsic motivation, promote mastery, and instill the sense of self-efficacy that students need for deep learning. Although cheating is a persistent problem, the prognosis is not dire. The good news is that strategies which reduce cheating also improve student performance overall. Instructors who learn to curb academic dishonesty will have done more than solve a course management problem—they will have become better educators all around.

✨Self-Audit for RSI and Accessibility (~10 hours)

Regular Substantive Interaction (RSI) and Accessibility both have federally-mandated standards when courses have online components. Review the RSI check-list and check your course for accessibility. Document and submit 10-hours of changes in response.
