Using Respondus LockDown Browser off campus

Downloading Respondus LockDown Browser (LDB) to a personal or home computer

There are two ways you can download the LDB onto your personal or home computer.

  • The first, and most common, is to download the browser directly from a link that is posted in your Canvas course.
  • The second is to access the browser from a general Canvas Orientation before you need it; that is, if you do not yet have access to your specific course in Canvas.

Follow the instructions written here, or view the images attached below.

Option 1: Download LDB from your course within Canvas
  • From within Canvas, go to the course where you are needing to take the quiz and click on the quiz that requires LDB.
  • When you click "Take Quiz" you will be prompted to download LDB if it is not already installed on your personal computer.
  • The answer to any prompt is "Yes" and LDB will download and create a link on your computer desktop. This process of downloading only needs to be done once, as LDB will remain on your computer.

  • Following the installation, simply click the link for LDB from your desktop. LDB will open and direct you to Canvas where you will log in and navigate to your quiz.

Option 2: Download LDB from the "My GRC Backpack" orientation course in Canvas

If you need to take a quiz with Respondus Lockdown browser and want to install it in advance, you can access the program in the Canvas Orientation class "My GRC Backpack" that all GRC students have in Canvas, if a practice test is not available in their other Canvas class(es). The browser can still be loaded from the actual class quiz page at the time you take the quiz.

  • After logging into Canvas from the Green River website, look for the course listed "My GRC Backpack"
    • Note: if you do not see this course on your Canvas dashboard, you can click on the menu to the right and choose "All courses" to see a list of all the courses you are or have been enrolled in. The "Canvas Orientation" course should be listed there.
