Overview

The first-time student success dashboard allows cohort monitoring of students through their programs and milestone completion as well as post-graduate information. These data are useful for institutional interventions geared toward specific student populations.

Explore the four choices below "Student Success Data" to examine student retention data, program completion rates, achievement rates of specific milestones, and post-college success metrics. Each section provides you with:

  • an overview about why the metric is useful to consider
  • an orientation of the different dashboard filters and how they can be adjusted to address a specific question
  • an example analysis with interpretation
  • a set of "Next-Step" strategies for what your institution can do to respond to the data
  • references for further learning
  • an area to explore and toggle through the types of questions you can ask with that dashboard

General Dashboard Navigation

Accessing the SBCTC Dashboards

  1. Go to the SBCTC Data Dashboards website. **Note: Accessing these data requires that you be connected to the network affiliated with your institution.
  2. Navigate to the Student Success Dashboard using the following:

Creating a Comparison Peer Group

By default, the data presented is aggregate for the SBCTC system. You may compare an individual college to the entire SBCTC system. For instance, in the example below, when you select the “Green River” college filter, you can examine the data for Green River only next to the data for all other colleges in the SBCTC system.

Alternatively, you may wish to compare your individual college with a subset of peer colleges that may be more similar in terms of geographic location, size, or student demographics. To do this:

  1. Scroll to the right in the dashboard navigation pane and select the tab that is called “Peer Grouping & Data Dictionary”.
  1. Unselect the “All” option and select YOUR college and any peer colleges you would like to compare to. Click “Apply” when done.
    • *Note: comparisons are made to the peer college aggregate, so if you would like to compare to one college in particular, you must only select your college and the single comparison college.

Inspect Individual Data Points

It may be useful for you to inspect individual data points to get a sense of how many students are being considered in the percentage. To do this, for any given dashboard, simply hover your cursor over the data point you are curious about.

Revert to Default Settings

At the bottom of any given dashboard, click on the "Revert" button to restore the dashboard to its default setting (a setting with no filters applied).
