Free, open-source, cross-platform audio software. Audacity is an easy-to-use, multi-track audio editor and recorder for Windows, Mac OS X, GNU/Linux and other operating systems.
Sound Recorder (known as Voice Recorder in Windows 10) is an audio recording program included in most versions of the Microsoft Windows family of operating systems.
GarageBand is Apple's consumer-level audio editing application. This is a powerful application at any price, but this application is included free on all OS X Macs. With a little effort, you can create your own compositions using GarageBand, but it is exceptionally suited to creating very slick podcasts combining sound clips and voice recordings.
