Concept mapping is a great tool for helping you:

  1. Choose your topic
  2. Map out Key Words
  3. Narrow or Broaden a Research Topic
  4. Develop Research Questions

Finding Concepts, Terminology, & Focus with Reference

You can use a reference database to scan for ideas, a focus, and keywords - as well as to get informed!

In the images below I do the following steps: Click on images to enlarge.

  1. I type in a keyword search of climate change AND micronesia OR guam OR oceania. (note that you don't need to capitalize)

  1. I scan the encyclopedia titles and the article titles looking for:
    • ways to focus my research
    • language and concepts I can learn from
    • language and concepts I can use to find other sources in databases.

  1. I use an introductory reference article to get informed AND to find keywords I can use in my research.
    • Notice all the useful highlighted words in the third image below, including "climate-induced migration", "environmental migration", "rising sea levels", and much more.
