This year we have learned about mass incarceration, racial inequities in the US legal system, the school to prison pipeline, the lack of educational opportunities in prison, innocence and exoneration, addiction and incarceration, and the challenges of reentry.

Please help us wrap up our year and plan for the future with a discussion of why educational reentry programs are essential and some of the amazing work being done in the field.

Second Chances: Retribution and Reform

• Speaker: Jeremiah Bourgeois

In 1993, Jeremiah Bourgeois was sentenced to life in prison without parole for a crime he committed as a fourteen-year-old. Join us as Mr. Bourgeois talks about the path that led to his twenty-seven years of incarceration, his ultimate transformation and release from confinement, and his trials and triumphs during the reentry process. Mr. Bourgeois is currently earning his Law Degree at Gonzaga University and is an advocate for criminal justice reform.
