Film and Video for Classes

Information for faculty on the process of requesting and showing films for classes at GRC.

How to Request Films

How Can Faculty Request Purchase of Films?

To request the purchase of a new video, please complete the Holman Library Multimedia Request Form linked below for each item requested.

If you are requesting new media or to have a DVD digitized for a class, please note that it can take the library and Media Services several weeks to fulfill the request.

The library uses the information you provide on the purchase form to help us:

  • locate the film in an accessible format

  • meet your class viewing deadline

  • determine if we should purchase a license to the film based on your intended use

  • determine if we should use a pay-per-view option (Holman Library pays, not the student) and limit access to the film

  • determine if we should purchase a DVD and possibly work with Media Services to digitize it and set up streaming version through Microsoft Stream for online classes (copyright issues are part of that deliberation)

  • determine if the film is out of print or unavailable to institutions (as is often the case with media from streaming platforms like Netflix or Hulu) and possibly suggest alternatives, if appropriate

  • track where your request is in the purchase process, which is important as the process requires attention from different people.

If you have questions about purchases, you are welcome to contact instructional subject librarian (Amanda Chin, Jennifer Rohan, Jody Segal, or Katie Cunnion) AND to Marji MacKenzie, Holman Library’s collection librarian.
