Find Magazines & Newspaper Articles

Read current magazine and newspaper articles to for reporting, analysis, or opinion on current issues.

Search Tips:

  • To limit your search to only magazine and/or news articles, select magazines or newspapers at Publication Type.

  • If you choose newspaper articles, look for substance! Try limiting to cover story, feature, front page for longer articles.

  • To find opinion, limit to opinion, commentary, or editorials. 

  • Use limiters to select a date range.

Limit by Source & even Document Type

You can limit to magazines and newspapers at source type before or after you search.

Experiment! Try limiting to feature stories, cover stories, or "front matter" to find substantive sources. See image 2.

Selection Tips:

How do you know what articles to read? 

  • Look over titles to see what seems relevant.
  • In some databases you can look at Subject Terms for each article. See if they seem relevant.
  • Click on the title to read the abstract, which offers a summary or introduction to the article. Most articles have one!
  • If the articles sound like opinion or the author is "anonymous," you've likely found opinion pieces.
  • If you don't like the articles you found, try altering your keywords.
