Erasing David: Surveillance vs. Privacy in the 21st-Century Data State

Filmmaker David Bond lives in the U.K.—surprisingly, one of the top surveillance states in the entire world. From ubiquitous street corner traffic cameras to countless business, medical, and government databases, there is a disconcertingly huge amount of personal information that has been collected on him and his family. In this film, David documents a harrowing experiment in which he tests just how much privacy he really has by attempting to drop out of sight for 30 days after inviting a pair of security experts to try to track him down. His unsuccessful flight, in combination with his investigation into data collection and data loss/misuse, paints a dystopian portrait of life in a surveillance state where even if people have nothing to hide, it doesn’t mean they have nothing to fear.
